Free State traffic cop pulled over female motorist: "wanted sexual experience with a white woman"

VILJOENSKROON - On January 2, a terrified widow was pulled over by a Free State traffic cop for a trumped-up "traffic violation". She said later that she felt "very trapped" and afraid because the uniformed black man had pulled her car over on lonely stretch of road which was surrounded by maize-fields. He treated her rudely, questioning her about her marital status and then demanding sex, saying he "wanted a sexual experience with a white woman". She refused and drove off, after paying a fine -- the woman then felt so unsafe and fearful about lodging a formal complaint of sexual harassment that she wrote a letter to Beeld newspaper first -- asking whether someone could assist her. The Freedom Front Plus party, which represents the Afrikaner electorate, was asked to assist, and the party has already been in touch with municipal officials demanding an investigation into the traffic official's behaviour, said provincial leader Abrie Oosthuizen. Mr Oosthuizen also expressed concern about other reports regarding such incidents of abuse from public officials - and asked that anyone who has experienced similar problems, to contact them directly. Beeld was unable to obtain formal comment from the municipal officials of Nala, they wrote.
